Michelle Keegan doesn’t think she should win a National Television Award this year. The 25-year-old beauty is nominated for Best Dramatic Performance for her portrayal of beautiful barmaid Tina McIntyre in ‘Coronation Street’ at the National Television Awards later this month, and although she is pleasantly surprised at the nod, she thinks her “amazing” co-star Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) is more worthy of the prize.

Speaking on ITV’s ‘Daybreak’, she said: “I didn’t expect to be up for a nomination. I came in as a new actress as well. I know it sounds cliched but to be fair I think Alan should win; he has done amazing this year. He has not stopped.”

“I’ve got nothing to wear yet – I’ve got one week and no dress. I always leave it to the last minute.”

Michelle’s character is currently acting as a surrogate mother to friends Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) and Gary Windass (Mikey North), who are unable to have children of their own, and in order to make her role believable she met a woman going through the same process.

Michelle explained: “I remember when I first heard about [the storyline] I thought I don’t know how I’m going to this because it is a bit of a taboo subject and I don’t know anyone who has been a surrogate; so before the storyline started I met a surrogate mum and she explained how it felt and how she detached from the pregnancy and so I had that in my head and I’ve used that.”
